Aktion Club

An Aktion Club is a community-service group for adults with disabilities. The mission of the Aktion Club is to provide adults living with the disabilities an opportunity to develop initiative and leadership, to serve their community, to be integrated into society, and to demonstrate the dignity and value of citizens living with disabilities. Aktion Club members strive to return the benefits, help and caring they have received, from their communities, as well as develop skills in the process.
What are the benefits of Aktion Club? Individuals who live with disabilities often have many talents but little opportunity to develop or apply them. These citizens have few chances to interact socially and function in society. Too often they are isolated and dependent when they could be making valuable contributions to the world around them.
Agencies that serve those who live with disabilities do their best to help clients reach their potential. Many of these agencies, however, do not have the funding or staff to provide the community-based leadership activities.
What does the Gaylord Aktion Club do? Aktion Club members attend club meetings where they learn about community issues, plan service and fundraising projects and enjoy fellowship with other Kiwanis-family members. Aktion Club members perform a wide variety of community service and have teamed up with other organizations to help out where needed in our area. Our Gaylord Aktion Club has participate in a number of activities:
- We teamed up with Kiwanis in their dime toss at Alpenfest and created a float for the parade.
- We bake, sell and package dog biscuits to raise money for local charities, including The Caring Closet and the Friendship Shelter.
- We rang bells for Salvation Army
- We went caroling during the holidays at the Friendship Shelter and Community dinner.
